LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (February 27, 2008) – Adaptive skier, Adam Hall (20) of Outram, Otago, has finished the 2008 IPC World Cup tour ranked third in the world in slalom skiing with a podium finish in all his races, including a gold in Queryas, France.

It was only the force of nature that stopped him from a potential world champion result after bad weather halted the second run of the final slalom race of the tour. Hall had qualified in first place. An equally successful second run would have seen him ranked number one in the world.

Dubbed “The Kiwi Sensation” on the tour, Hall’s final world rankings are third in slalom and ninth in giant slalom with an overall world ranking of seventh place, marking an achievement that required him to ski at an extremely high level in several disciplines – slalom, GS, Super Combined - throughout the season against other elite skiers from around the world. His results included two silvers in addition to his gold.

As well his IPC World Cup success, Hall won seven golds at each of the Nor-Am Cup races throughout North America, a mixture of GS, Super G and slalom. His final race is this weekend in Winter Park, USA at the 33rd Wells Fargo Cup, an invitational event he won in 2005 and 2007.

Hall said he was extremely happy with his achievements, “These are all stepping stones to my ultimate goal of winning gold at the Paralympics in 2010,” he said.

Hall is a member of the New Zealand Disabled Ski Team and a Paralympian and trains under the Winter Performance Programme.

The IPC World Cup is an annual circuit of elite disabled alpine skiing competitions regulated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Ski Federation (FIS). Events are held across Europe, North America and Asia are considered the premier competitions in disabled ski racing.
