Treble Cone opens
by Brown Bear - June 29th, 2009. Filed under: Latest News, Ski Areas, South Island.Treble Cone Ski Area opened on 27 June for its 2009 season. Wanaka was as busy from 7am as locals and those hailing from afar scrambled to get coffees, skis, snowboards and friends packed into their vehicles. The train of cars snaked their way around the beautiful lake side and through the cloud layer to get up to Treble Cone’s opening day. Locals had been watching the snow accumulate from across Lake Wanaka, but everyone was surprised at just how phenomenal the conditions were for this years opening.
“It was great really good snow, brilliant, really dry loose powder on the side of the pipes and the Matukituki shoots, legs are now burning. I’ve never seen it this good ever on opening,” said Hetty Van Hale of Wanaka.
Terrain at the Saddle was blanketed with a metre of snow, and all major runs groomed out perfectly. Opening day meant plenty of use on Treble Cone’s new free learner’s lifts and the new management was very happy to see its success.
Treble Cone has once again demonstrated that it is a true alpine resort offering a variety of terrain and optimal experiences for one and all.
With the South Island’s largest vertical descent, the most terrain and longest groomed trails, Treble Cone is New Zealand’s premier alpine resort. Three hundred and sixty degree views of the snow-capped Southern Alps, the brilliant blue Lake Wanaka and the rugged Central Otago landscape make this one of the most memorable views of any alpine resort. Situated on the edge of Lake Wanaka, Treble Cone has established itself as a mecca for all snow enthusiasts both locally and abroad.
