Holiday fun for families heading to Mt Hutt

Mt Hutt Ski Area welcomes families up the mountain the week of 6 July for the ultimate high country school holiday experience.

Getting active in the fresh mountain air, having fun and gaining confidence in the snow is the focus of the school holiday programmes at the ski area.

The Kruiser Squad five-day holiday programme caters for novice to advanced skiers aged from six to 17 years old or boarders aged from eight to 17 years, and starts on the 6 and 13 July 2009.

Dave Grogan, Snowsports School director, said the programme provided a friendly, safe and supportive environment to encourage learning and development.

“Children will have lots of fun in the snow while building confidence and improving skills,” he says. “Each student will receive individual feedback and attention from professionally trained instructors including basic technical skills and drill exercises. Participants will also get the opportunity to try out some freestyle skiing or riding.”

The Kruiser Squad programme at Mt Hutt Ski Area includes lunch and lunchtime supervision, and runs for a full day from 10:20am to 3:50pm each day for the five days.

For more advanced skiers aged from 12 to 17 years old, the Max Vertical three-day programme exposes participants to terrain parks, moguls and steep terrain for three hours a day at Mt Hutt.

Mr Grogan says the programme promised lots of fun.

“Max Vertical is a fantastic progression programme,” he says. “It also includes a skills test, certificate, and a hearty alpine lunch.”

For alternative one- to five-day options at Mt Hutt, children aged from six through to 17 years old can sign up to the Kea Club and Shredders ski and snowboard programmes (available throughout the 2009 season) designed to encourage maximum participation in the snow with fellow skiers or boarders of similar ability.

Mr Grogan says that the smallest members of the family were also well catered for at Mt Hutt.

“Children aged six and under enjoy free day lift passes every day of the season and we have a fully licensed Skiwiland Early Learning Centre for two to five year olds,” he says. Run by Early Childhood (ECE) trained children’s instructors, the centre provides fun-based activity both indoors and outdoors. “Parents can hit the slopes confident that children are in the best care and having fun.”
